“Take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented.”

Koko the gorilla is a resident at the Gorilla Foundation in Woodside, CA and communicates understands spoken english and uses over 1,000 signs to share her feelings and thoughts on daily life. After the first call about Robin’s passing, Koko came to Dr. Patterson with an inquiring look on her face. Dr. Patterson explained that ‘we have lost a dear friend, Robin Williams. Koko was quiet and looked very thoughtful, Koko signed the words for “woman” and “crying.” Koko became very somber, with her head bowed and her lip quivering; she was crying over the loss of her friend.

"Robin made Koko smile — something she hadn’t done for over six months, ever since her childhood gorilla companion, Michael, passed away. Not only did Robin cheer up Koko, the effect was mutual, and Robin seemed transformed — from a high-energy entertainer, into a mellow, sensitive, empathetic guy, who also happened to be really funny." -Dr. Patterson

So I guess I’d be considered ‘liberalish’ (I don’t really affiliate myself with either spectrum as I have different views depending on the topic and what I find realistic/rational to personal/moral), but I don’t hold anything against “the other side” (conservatives, I guess) personally or hate them or feel volatile toward them. I just disagree with them on some… maybe a lot of things (though I still make an effort to listen to their point of view and sympathize however I can, as I try to do for anyone in general). But I keep hearing conservatives/the right proclaim that all non-(strict/institutional) Christians and non-‘Rights’ are hateful and have created “the whole mess we’re in” (presumably the surge of partisanship, I guess… it’s kind of vague, there are a lot of ‘messes’ in the world all the time), etc. And for sure, there are some on the far Left side that probably swing as much mud and anger and hate toward the Right as some as the Right does in return. But I’m confused… does this ‘Right’ not think it itself is ever responsible for hate/fear mongering/anger/finger pointing/labeling/blaming/etc. ever, at all? I mean… What? Lol Cause like (again I’m sure just as some ‘Liberals’ do), they throw around some pretty hurtful, distasteful insults and say that liberals are like the enemy and should be kicked out of the country and are all idiots and atheists (which is apparently a bad thing that should not be tolerated… in a democracy…???), etc.

So my question here goes out to any conservatives/Rights/Republicans that might follow me (and I ask out of curiosity and the desire to understand, not blame or shame): does this describe you? Besides respectful disagreement, do you also hate/personally dislike all ‘liberals/lefts’? Do you think they should have less rights/be shunned or ignored? Do you think any one group of people with a differing opinion can ruin this country? Are you genuinely afraid something will happen if some liberal viewpoints are followed from time time? Just… what’s going on with this?
